The Rave Underground Milwaukee WI: December 7, 2002

Notable

After a 5-minute jam to start, they go into a more developed In the Kitchen to open the show with their brand-new number. This one has the B section in the major chords, including the lyrics, for the first time.

At about 3:45 they go into an improv jam, which sounds a lot like modern In the Kitchens. The jam morphs quickly with an increased tempo section to slide into Smell the Mitten.

Jake: “Milwaukee. Thanks for comin’ out.”

Divisions. Mmmm. After the drum solo and the second set of verses, they slowly drift into a beautiful Glory, they are taking their time with this one.

Glory goes into a short improv jam and then they start directly into Miles Davis’ It’s About That Time, with another tempo change.

To the song, they tease Third Stone from the Sun (Jimi Hendrix) before sliding back into Divisions to complete the sandwich.

Professor Wormbog gets a few rehearsal phrases in between songs. They play the Boyz2Men “Zoom zoom zoom zaya” vocal harmony section too.

2nd Self comes out strong, goes into Waiting Room, and then a nice The Triple Wide to end the set.

Ringo! Then the classic Pink Floyd In the Flesh? > Another Brick in the Wall. Joel’s vocals are always strong on this one.

They tease The Fussy Dutchman before ending the Floyd, and Wake Up Dead by Megadeth, a little Jake beatbox, and The Pink Panther theme, and finally Uncommon before jumping into it.

Bad Poker is labeled “Jake song” in the track list. It’s just the first verses of the song, less than a minute and a half. After “gimme that pair of kings and the queen of hearts” they just end it.

The Crooked One, Phil’s Farm just excellent. Joel kills it on the synth solo.

The way that last note of Phil’s turns into the first note of Visions of Parin is awesome. The do a short jam before drifting into The Fuzz.

Careful if you’re listening in the car: Andy’s police car siren in The Fuzz will freak you out. This used to happen to me all the time.

Andy’s Last Beer closes the set.

In Violation of Yes, a 12 minute version, is the encore.
