Mishawaka Brewing Company Mishawaka IN: September 6, 2002

Mishawaka is right next to South Bend, and this is the epitome of a South Bend hometown show, happening at the actual location of where the original 4 band members met in 1997 and started the band. (story told during the banter after Roulette)

They start the show with a Joel announcing that they are going to play some new stuff.

Notable: The Debut of JaJunk

A very awesome Push the Pig to start the show, with the debut of JaJunk sandwiched in the middle. JaJunk was originally called Around the World in 80 Days. Parts of JaJunk have been teased and explored recently on 8-15-02 and 8-17-02.

Jake announces in a Spinal Tap English accent, “this is off our latest release.” Roulette has an extensive jam, and then goes back into Roulette for the finish; we don’t really hear that song jammed these days.

The latest release is Local Band Does OK, just over a month before on 6-21-02.

Roulette was debuted along with others at Mishawaka on 8-11-01. Also debuted on that date were a new intro for The Fuzz, Get Down first time complete (War), Get In the Van, and Good Ol’ Boys (Waylon Jennings).

Uncommon has Brendan announcing that it’s a new song, and if anyone knows his old friend Mike Nolan from High School, (people shout), he says yes if you’re from South Bend, you know the Nolans, and he says Mike wrote some of the song, they wanted to combine it with some of what Umphrey’s had written, it was just too good to not be heard.

Joel tells the story of the first meeting of the original 4 band members, after Roulette and before In the Flesh? saying “this is one of the first songs that we wrote” about the Pink Floyd song. Haha.

They play In the Hall of the Mountain King to finish the first set, which you’ll recognize as the finish of Thin Air, but as a stand-alone version. They’ve played this 24 times, mostly in the early 2000s, the last time at Red Rocks on 7-3-2015. Thin Air has been around since it’s debut on 4-20-1998.

A great HBB and Walletsworth, then a rare A 5th of Beethoven, 3x and a classic August.
And In Violation of Yes, which is played quite often in this era. In the jam section it has Ozzy teases, and Flight of the Bumblebee by Joel.
