The Vibe Austin TX: October 24, 2002
This one set show features Water, a Visions jam that has that Den B section to end, and Prowler goes into a Miles Davis It’s About That Time labeled Jazz Odyssey. Also, John Scofield’s A Go Go. Pay the Snucka ends with the In the Hall of the Mountain King segment that usually finishes Thin Air.
Notable:
Professor Wormbog – with Boyz 2 Men Motown Philly vocal interlude.
An early August gets a Mikey drums beginning instead of Ryan on the bass. Listed as unfinished, and the jam has a Peter Gunn theme tease. Next time they play August (in 2022) it will be the 400th performance.
Water: Joel announces it’s a song from their new album. Local Band Does OK was released in June. It’s a great version and Water has only been played 193 times.
Water slams right into The Fussy Dutchman, then a transition into Tomorrow Never Knows (The Beatles). That cover has only been played 24 times.
40s Theme shows no transition into Visions, but the ending just slams right into it without missing a beat.
This Visions has the Den B section jam to end, and goes right into Syncopated Strangers.
Prowler goes into a nice It’s About That Time (Miles Davis) segment labeled Jazz Odyssey in the archive.
Der Bluten Kat is a strong version, with the jam building up and then slams into John Scofield’s “A Go Go,” the classic instrumental jazz piece. Another pretty rate tune, this one’s been played 65 times, most of which were back in 1999-2002.
A full Pay the Snucka, and it finishes with the “Thin Air” ending, In the Hall of the Mountain King.
That starts off the FF with no break, just Brendan strumming the reggae rhythm guitar to begin before the band comes in.
The FF jam transitions back into DBK, where they going into the second part of DBK and jam 2 and keep the energy high throughout.
